Rolex Sky-Dweller
About Rolex Sky-Dweller
The Rolex Sky-Dweller is the latest model released by the company. It is a great acquisition for travelers as it can simultaneously tell the time from two different time zones.
Although this model looks similar to other traditional Rolex watches, it is acknowledged as the most complicated watch to date. This is because it possesses a series of complex features, such as a function control bezel and month calendar.
While it was not that popular at its release, the changes to the subsequent references made the model more appealing. Today, the Sky-Dweller has become one of the most popular and expensive Rolex models.
History of the Sky-Dweller
The Sky-Dweller is the newest model released by Rolex. This series of watches was revealed in 2012 after 20 years without releasing any new models.
Since the company had only been releasing new references to their already existing models, the news of a new model was a pleasant surprise to many watch enthusiasts. However, the Sky-Dweller looked highly similar to other traditional models. This gave the watch a slow start towards its current popularity.
Nonetheless, the only similarity it shared with previous models was the aesthetic element. Deep inside, the watch had an intricate and precise system and many outstanding features. One of the most relevant is the function control bezel that allows the wearer to set the date and month and adjust the 24 hours disc. This is a rotating disc located in the center of the dial and can be used to set the time of a different time zone.
The Rolex Sky-Dweller was designed with 14 distinct patents due to its complexity. This model was initially designed only in solid gold and had the option to choose between a leather strap or an Oyster bracelet. However, Rolesor versions were added to the collection in 2017, turning the Rolex Sky-Dweller into one of the most popular models. Currently, the leather strap models are discontinued.

It comes with three dial color options: blue, white, and black, being blue the most popular one. The White Rolesor with blue dial is the most popular combination and was released in 2017.
Rolex Sky-Dweller Features
Since this is the most complicated watch released by Rolex, the Sky-Dweller possesses many unique features.
Annual calendar
Aside from the date indicator, located at 3 o'clock, the Sky-Dweller possesses a small box next to each hour marker to indicate the month.
Each number on the dial represents a month, and the watch automatically moves the marker after a month has passed. It only requires an adjustment at the end of February each year to set the date.
Ring command bezel
Unscrewing the crown allows moving the bezel in different positions. It is possible to control multiple functions depending on the bezel position. This way, the wearer can set the month, date, and hour and move the internal 24-hour ring to display a second time zone.
Movement
The sky dweller is powered by a modern caliber 9001. This allows the watch to be as precise as possible. Furthermore, it has a 72-hour power reserve with a Superlative Chronometer Certification. This means that the time only deviates +/- 2 seconds per day.
Bracelet Materials and Dials
Rolex offers the Sky-Dweller with a wide variety of materials to choose from. Same as with any other Rolex watch, only high-quality materials are used. This includes:
- 18k Yellow Gold
- 18k White Gold
